City's burn ban still in effect

Colorado Springs fire officials are reminding most people that a burn off ban applied June 17 is even now in result.

The ban prohibits the use of bonfires, product rockets, recommended burns, campfires, outside fires on private house and outside cooking in city parks and open spaces. The fire department said violating these could end result in fines up to $500 or 90 days in jail.

Low fuel moisture levels, continued warm temperatures and a drying trend prompted the ban, officials said.

Outside smoking is allowed, as prolonged as substances are disposed of in non-combustible containers. Fires in normal gasoline fire pits and the use of charcoal or propane grills are also allowed.
